Physics
My research is centered on stochastic thermodynamics: the theory of heat, work and entropy production in systems where thermal fluctuations are not negligible.
The physics of fluctuations
At microscopic and mesoscopic scales, thermodynamic quantities are not fixed numbers. Heat, work and entropy production fluctuate from one trajectory to another.
Stochastic thermodynamics provides a framework to describe these quantities along individual stochastic trajectories, connecting probability, irreversibility and energy conversion.
My work uses stochastic processes, master equations, Langevin dynamics and large-deviation theory to study microscopic heat engines, interacting systems and rare events far from equilibrium.
